The Eshkol-Wachman movement notation enables a body’s movements to be analyzed in time and space and recorded graphically using a system of symbols. During these workshops led by Mor Bashan (Chamber Dance Group dancer and archivist at the Noa Eshkol Foundation), participants are invited to translate their own sequences of movements into “language” in a playful way and perform them again using their notation as a reference.
Noa Eshkol created the movement notation primarily as a compositional tool. Through the movement notation, it is possible to define, analyze and quantify the given “material” – that is, the body that moves in space and time. We invite participants to experience performing elements and practice from the repertoire of Noa Eshkol dance compositions.
The workshop will introduce the participant to the language of movement, created by Eshkol through the invention of the EW movement notation, and the physical challenges it invites the performer.
The workshops are led by Mor Bashan, Chamber Dance Group dancer and archivist. Bashan teaches sequences and and combinations from the repertoire of Noa Eshkol’s dance compositions. Students/participants learn the principles of Eshkol – Wachman Movement Notation through practicing Eshkol’s compositions.
Everyone is welcome to attend, no prior knowledge or physical skill is required.
